Taremi wins best Champions League Goal Award.

Porto striker Mehdi Taremi has won the UEFA Goal of the Season award for his stunning bicycle kick against Chelsea.

Taremi scooped the prize as a reward for scoring Porto’s last-gasp winner in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie with Chelsea on April 13.

The Portuguese outfit ultimately exited the competition 2-1 on aggregate to the eventual winners, but their talismanic frontman has secured a place in European football history after receiving 30 percent of the final vote for the best goal of 2020-21.

Taremi’s wonder strike

There did not appear to be a lot on when Porto substitute Nanu raced down the right-wing in stoppage time at Sevilla’s Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium, but he managed to produce a perfectly weighted cross that found its way to Taremi with his back to goal.

The Iran international could have tried to bring the ball down before letting fly, but instead trusted his goalscoring instincts to unleash a sensational first time overhead kick, which flew into the top corner and left Blues goalkeeper Edouard Mendy rooted to the spot.

Who did Taremi beat to the award?

60,000 votes were cast for the UEFA prize in total, with Italy talisman Lorenzo Insigne coming in second for his superb individual goal against Belgium in the Euro 2020 quarter-finals, which ultimately gave the Azzurri a 2-1 victory before they went on secure the trophy with wins against Spain and England.

Rangers star Kemar Roofe has completed the top three, having been recognized for the spectacular long-range effort he produced in a Europa League group stage clash with Standard Liege.

Taremi’s overall record for Porto

Taremi joined Porto from Rio Ave last August and quickly established himself as the focal point in Sergio Conceicao’s set-up at Estadio do Dragao.

The 29-year-old scored 23 goals in his debut season with the Primeira Liga club, including his wonder goal against Chelsea, while also recording 18 assists.

A terrific start for Team Melli’s striker, Mehdi Taremi, and an early second-half goal by Moussa Marega propelled Porto to their first victory against Juventus in the Champions League as they secured a 2-1 first-leg win against the Italian champions in their round-of-16 tie on Wednesday.

Taremi pounced on a sloppy back pass after 63 seconds to fire in the opener that left Juventus, which had a fully fit Cristiano Ronaldo in the lineup, rattled and they failed to create any clear chances before half-time.

This was the fourth consecutive goal by Taremi in as many games for his club Porto in what was described as a dream run for the Iranian striker by the match commentator. Taremi, considered by many as a bargain purchase from Rio Ave by Porto, was initially left out of the starting lineup by coach  Sérgio Conceição, however, a last-minute change of match plan meant that Porto would start to play a 4-4-2 with two strikers upfront, a plan which worked to perfection as both the strikers scored early in each half.

Taremi’s brilliant scoring run, a first for Iranian professional footballer in Europe, started with a goal against Sporting Braga in two home and away consecutive cup matches, Boavista in the league and Juventus in the European Champions League.

Mehdi Taremi (28 years) has scored 9 goals for Porto this season scoring an average of a goal in every 121 minutes.

Sardar Azmoun, Taremi’s partner in Team Melli who is also enjoying a brilliant season with the Russian club Zenit St. Petersburg has scored 11 goals for his club this season averaging a goal in every 92 minutes.

Team Melli’s third striker Karim Ansarifard who plays in the Greek League with AEK Athens, has scored 8 goals in the season averaging one goal in 155 minutes of play.

Marítimo, Ali Alipour’s next destination.

As reported earlier, Persepolis is facing a major exodus of its star player out of the team and country. The Portuguese newspaper Record has said that  Marítimo is almost assured of recruiting the Brazilian right-back Cláudio Winck, who terminated his contract with Vasco da Gama and will sign for 3 seasons; and the Iranian striker Ali Alipour, ex-Persepolis, who has an agreement for 2 seasons and is waiting for his visa to travel to Portugal.

This news comes as Persepolis is struggling financially and is in a perilous situation with piles of court cases against it for non-payment. Mehdi Torabi has left the Team to Qatar while other players are awaiting contracts abroad.

Ali Alipour has been chased by Rio Ave as a replacement for his compatriot Mehdi Taremi who left to join FC Porto. This is the first time Marítimo was mentioned as a destination for Persepolis’ top scorer.

Benfica is after Taremi.

Benfica FC, Portugal’s most celebrated and greatest club is on the lookout for Team Melli and Rio Aves striker, Mehdi Taremi. The news has been reported by Record.pt website.

According to the popular site, the Iranian striker appeals to the Benfica officials who see Taremi as an advantageous solution who can bring glories to the club.

Taremi has done exceptionally well for Rio Ave before the endemic outbreak and suspension of the league. Rio Ave has been approached by several Portugues clubs including Sporting regarding the possible transfer of Taremi, but the reluctance of the club to release the player short of their expected valuation and also their aspiration to make the Europa League has put a stop to these negotiations. However, post COVID19 the situation might be different, and Rio might concede to a club such as Benfica which is has been rumored to offer 10 million Euros for Taremi.

Sporting CP desperate for Mehdi Taremi.

The center forward of Team Melli, Mehdi Taremi is on the front pages of the sporting press of Portugal.

The Rio Ave forward who is having quite a successful first season on the Portuguese top league is wanted by Sporting Clube de Portugal or as commonly called, Sporting Lisbon.

The famous club has just sold one of its best players Bruno Fernades to Manchester United. With the Brazilian forward Luiz Phellype’s suffering serious injury, which keeps him out of the competition at least until the end of the current season, added to the transfer of Fernandes, the clock is ticking for the accelerated arrival of Mehdi Taremi’s at Jose Alvalade Stadium of Sporting CP.

The Iranian striker of Rio Ave has already been the subject of interest of many top clubs however the more serious discussion has been between Sporting and Rio Ave. The leaders of the two clubs have been talking for some time, and the injury of the Brazilian, as well as the biggest financial relief provided by the transfer of Bruno Fernandes to Manchester United, may accelerate the transfer of Taremi.

Transfer Rumours: Mehdi Taremi to FC Porto!

According to José Fernandes a journalist at the newspaper OGogo, Mehdi Taremi and FC Porto have already signed a pre-agreement for Rio Ave forward to join FC Porto.

Mehdi Taremi is Al-Gharafa player loaned to Rio Ave. The transfer is imminent according to the journalist but highly dependent on whether Tiquinho Soares’s deal with AS Roma is finalized.

Taremi has been in an excellent form season with the middle of the table Rio Ave in the Portuguese League. The 27 Years old former Persepolis and IranJavan Busheher player has scored 8 goals this season, 5 goals in the league and 3 in the cup competition.  This is despite an injury he suffered earlier in the season which placed him on the injury list for a few weeks. Taremi has been a regular starter for Rio Ave and registered several assists on top of his goals.

Porto’s interest in Mehdi Taremi is significant as they are one of the top teams in Portugal. They have been dominating the Portuguese football along with Benfica. Porto has won the league 28 times with season 2017/18 being the last. PC Porto won the UEFA Champions League twice in 1986/87 and 2003/04 seasons. They also won the UEFA Cup twice and the UEFA Super Cup once in 1987. The club has a strong European pedigree. The other Portuguese icon, Benfica is currently leading the table with 45 points while FC Porto is second on 41 with 16 games played.  FC Porto head coach is Sérgio Conceição

Mehdi Taremi scores a hat trick in Portugal.

Team Melli top scorer, Mehdi Taremi has just scored a hat trick for his club Rio Ave in a 5 – 1 thrashing of Desportivo Aves.  The Iranian forward who has transferred from Qatari club Al Gharaffa at the beginning of the current season made a dream debut in the Portuguese league for his club  Rio Ave scoring in the  9′, 21′, and 51′ to be the first-ever Iranian to score a Hat Trick in a European league.

Taremi played for 75 minutes for his club against the team that has Mehrdad Mohammadi in its line up.

Taremi joins Portuguese club Rio Ave.

Portuguese club Rio Ave has hired Iranian forward Mehdi Taremi, who played for Qatar’s Al-Gharafa, the Portuguese Premier League club announced today.

The 27-year-old, who is international for his country, with 47 games and 19 goals, has signed a two-year contract and is already in Vila do Conde and will soon be part of the squad.

Team Melli’s leading scorer for the season, Mehdi Taremi, who may also play as a midfielder, has played most of his career in Iranian football, having excelled at Persepolis before joining Al-Gharafa (played 24 games and scored 10 goals) last season. 

According to the information provided by Rio Ave, Taremi will join the remaining squad, at the orders of coach Carlos Carvalhal.
