Mehdi Tartar has been appointed as an assistant coach of Team Melli’s U23 (Omid Team).

The appointment was confirmed by Habib Kashani , the Omid Team manager. The former Persepolis player and former coach of Rah Ahan and Gostarish Foolad Tabriz teams will be working under Nelo Vingada and their assignment will start from January during the 4 side Qatar International Friendship tournament in Doha. Iran Omid team will set up a training camp in Doha prior to the actual commencement of the Tournament.

Tartar is the second Iranian coach appointed to join Nelo Vingada coaching staff after Mohammad Khakpour agreed to an assistant coach position. Vingada is currently in Portugal and is unable to travel to Iran fearing prosecution for Tax evasion. The tax revenue department is demanding income tax payment from the days Vingada was working as the head coach of Persepolis. Neither the coach nor the player has paid the arrears and hence the Portuguese coach is in violation of the local tax codes and might be arrested if there is no response to the demands of the Tax authorities.
