Iran lifts Intercontinental Beach Soccer 2018 Trophy

Iran Beach Soccer Team, made history by lifting the Huawei Intercontinental Beach Soccer 2018 Trophy in Dubai after beating Russia 4-2 in the final on Saturday.

The atmosphere  of the packed stands in the Kite Beach in Jumeirah was electrifying as both the Iranian and Russian fans made themselves heard even before the start of the match. for both sets of fans livened up the proceedings at the 3,500-seater, state of the art stadium with drum beats and horns.

Iran were 3-0 ahead in the first period as the Russians were stunned by the wave after wave of Iranian offensive moves. By the third period, Russia managed to pull 1 goal back to make it 3-1 but Iran scored again to make it 4-1

Russia, quite fatigued from yesterdays marathon and difficult win in the semi-final but s yet still determined to make a game of it against Iran, pulled one more goal back in the 3rd period to make it 4-2. After the Russian goal, they attacked in force but they were open for Iranian counter attack of which many chances were missed to increase Iran’s tally of goals.

At the end of the action-packed 36 minutes , it did not matter as the two goal victory margin was maintained by Iran until the end to win their second Intercontinental Beach Soccer  Trophy after 2013. Ahmadzadeh lifted the cup as the players and Iranian fans rejoiced.

For the Asian champions and winners of the 2013 competition, it was the second win against Russia and the only unbeaten team in the tournament.

Opponent watch: Portugal

Having won a first major tournament at Euro 2016, can Cristiano Ronaldo now inspire the Seleccao again?

Portugal stunned Europe in 2016 after winning the European Championships despite rarely looking like potential winners until the semi-final.

Under pragmatic boss Fernando Santos, the Seleccao claimed a first ever major tournament success in France, despite drawing all three group games and managing just one win inside 90 minutes.

Now ranked No.3 in the world by FIFA, a side full full of experience, including Pepe (35), Rui Patricio (30), Joao Moutinho (31), Nani (31) and, of course, all-time record goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo (33), will have one final fling at the World Cup.

Santos has shown loyalty to his veterans – and been repaid – while also bringing through younger stars such as Joao Cancelo, Bernardo Silva, Raphael Guerreiro and Andre Silva, giving the side a mixture of youth and experience, nous and speed.

“Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Germany and France are the favourites to win the World Cup,” says the Portugal coach, Fernando Santos, before adding: “Then we have other candidates, who want to get as far as possible, and win the tournament if possible, and Portugal are in this second group.” Santos is cautious, despite winning Euro 2016 but he is looking forward to the World Cup with optimism and does so with good reason: Portugal seem stronger now than a year and a half ago, having added creativity to the defensive organisation that underpinned the 2016 title. Bernardo Silva and André Silva have been important factors in this attacking upgrade and in general the team have more depth. The one area which is perhaps weaker is the defence, where it has been hard to find replacements for Pepe (who will be 35 next summer), José Fonte (34) and Bruno Alves (36).

The big question regards whether Ronaldo can shine on the world stage and light up the major finals with his goalscoring; dumped out at the group stage in 2014, he has a much stronger support cast backing him up this time. Andre Silva has proven an excellent foil also, but has endured a difficult season at AC Milan after a big-money move.

Their opener against Spain offers an early test, but they’ll expect to get past Morocco and Iran, before heading into the knockout stages…a road they proved two years ago that they know how to travel.

Form guide

The Seleccao lost their opening World Cup qualifier in Switzerland, but won the following nine – including a must-win decider against the previously unbeaten Swiss – to book their finals spot.

That initial defeat to the Swiss apart, Portugal have lost just one friendly in the past 18 months – 3-2 at home to Sweden last March – while they finished third in the Confederations Cup last summer, having been beaten on penalties by Chile in the semi-final.

Cristiano Ronaldo

As crucial as ever (Image: Getty Images Europe)

Cristiano Ronaldo remains absolutely pivotal to the Seleccao, their biggest star and chief supplier of goals.

He doesn’t run down the flank as much as he did in his youth, and the step-overs are far more infrequent, but there simply isn’t a better big-game goalscorer on the planet.

His relationship with pragmatic coach Fernando Santos remains crucial, and this is, almost certainly, his last chance to win a World Cup.

Bernardo Silva

The former Benfica and Monaco playmaker Bernardo Silva experienced a slow start to his Manchester City career due to injury and the form of Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling, but the fleet-footed star has become increasingly important at the Etihad.

Extremely skillful, clever with his use of the ball and cutting in the final third, the 23-year-old missed out on Euro 2016 due to injury; he’ll be looking to make up for lost time in Russia.

Iran & Portugal met twice. The first meeting in Brazil was 36 years ago in Brazil Centenary tournament. Portugal was one of the best teams in the World at that time with the great Eusebio leading the attack. Iran was the top team in Asia but with an aging golden generation players such as Kalani, Iranpak, Halvaei and Arab.

The next meeting was in the World Cup 2006,where the  two teams have met in the group stage. It was a tough match for both team. Cristiano Ronaldo remains the only survivor from that match. He also scored a goal against Mirzapour. Portugal included two legendary players Luis Figo and Deck in that team.

Portugal had the upper hand in both the matches with 5 goals scored and none conceded.

How Carlos Queiroz turned Iran into Asia’s best World Cup hope

The former Manchester United coach eased the Iranians through qualification but they now want tangible finals success, something that has always eluded Team Melli

The only one of the dozen names on Fifa’s shortlist for 2017 men’s coach of the year not working in Europe was Tite, who ensured Brazil were the first qualifier for the 2018 World Cup. Iran were second but that was not enough for Carlos Queiroz, who has now led three different national teams to four World Cups. He may have to wait for success at the World Cup to turn eurocentric heads.

That means finishing above two of Portugal, Spain and Morocco in Russia to progress to the knockout stage at the fifth time of asking. If there is any Asian team that can manage that then it is Iran. For four years Team Melli have been the highest-ranked national side on the continent, for just a little less time they have been the best on the pitch, too.

In Brazil four years ago Queiroz, whose six years as number two at Manchester United in the previous decade was split by a season in charge of Real Madrid, had the team well-organised in a tough group containing Nigeria, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Argentina. A last-minute piece of Messi magic ended Iranian dreams of a first second-round appearance at the fourth attempt but Team Melli picked themselves off the floor. Now they are just as tight at the back but have more options going forward, younger overall but with more international experience.

Nine of the 23 who went to Brazil were based overseas but mainly spread around the Middle East and the second tiers of the big European leagues. The figure will be higher this time around, the leagues and performances are better and the players more active.

The winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh could mount a case – when he is not busy scoring and creating for AZ Alkmaar – to be the best player in the Netherlands this season. The £9m quoted a year ago in response to reported interest from Burnley, Watford and Bournemouth would be considerably higher now, especially with Napoli also monitoring him. The fleetfooted forward Reza Ghoochannejhad managed 19 goals for Heerenveen last season while the striker Karim Ansarifard has almost a goal a game for Olympiakos.

Sardar Azmoun is one of Asia’s biggest stars at 23, has already scored in the Champions League for Rubin Kazan and has been linked with Liverpool. Young midfielders Saeid Ezatolahi in Russia and Saman Ghoddos of Östersund are looking forward to making the next step up the European ladder and a successful World Cup can’t do any harm.

The improvement was there for all to see in qualification for this summer’s finals. Qualification for Brazil was in doubt until the final whistle of the final game which blew to bring relief, Iranian gestures and swear words at the rival bench and South Korean bottles flying down from the terraces. There was no such drama this time. The road to Russia was pleasantly boring – words that do not usually go together in this football crazy country. Qualification quickly became a foregone conclusion and was made official with two games to spare.

Iran did not lose and did not even concede until the 10th and final game. It was vindication for Queiroz who took the reins in 2011, months after guiding Portugal to the last 16 in South Africa. The 65-year-old not only has everything running exactly how he wants on the pitch, he can be busy off it too.

Whether due to his nature, Sir Alex Ferguson’s nurture or cold calculation – or a combination of all three – he likes to keep everyone on their toes by creating tension. In qualification for 2014 he quarrelled with rival coaches, but these days his ire is focused closer to home. There was a big fallout with Iran’s coach from the 2006 World Cup, Branko Ivankovic, now in charge of champions Persepolis, which led to Queiroz resigning amid accusations that the Iranian Football Federation (IFF) was not giving the support he needed.

Officials in Tehran can find it all a little bewildering but know that Queiroz brings success. At least two of the other four Asian qualifiers were curious as to whether last January’s resignation was genuine. It wasn’t.

He is also vocal when it comes to preparations, warning the federation to ensure that all that can be done is being done. Before Brazil four years ago international isolation made it difficult at times to arrange decent games. Sanctions also made it tough for the IFF to receive monies owed from abroad and so afford the overseas training camps that Queiroz wanted. Preparation for Russia has improved but there is still some way to go. Togo, Panama, Venezuela, Syria, Turkey, Tunisia and Sierra Leone present decent opposition but do not really compare to Brazil, Belgium, Italy, Germany and Colombia, who have been lined up by fellow Asian qualifiers Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia and Australia. No wonder Queiroz talks of these Asian powerhouses enjoying “World Cup credit cards” that provide automatic access.

Despite the tough draw, Iran are looking forward to this June and showing the world what they are made of. If all goes well, a host of talented players may get the chance to move to bigger clubs in bigger leagues, a ready-to-take-off domestic market with a large, young and passionate population may just get the spark and investment it needs, and Queiroz may just get the recognition he deserves.

Iran Beach soccer on the podium at Intercontinental Championship 2017

Iran Beach Soccer Team finished the 2017 on a high note after winning the 3rd place play-off against 3 times champions Russia in the Huawei Intercontinental Beach Soccer Cup Dubai 2017 today .

The match in Dubai , was between two semi-finals losers as Iran narrowly lost the match to the World Champions Brazil , while the same story was repeated when Portugal surprised Russia in the other semi-final 3-2.

Brazil were given stern examination of their credentials by Iran in the Huawei Intercontinental Beach Soccer Cup in the semi final yesterday before eventually progressing to Saturday’s final with a 6-4 win. The world champions will take on Portugal on the final day, having been given a real scare by Marco Octavio’s Iran who recovered from 5-2 down to get within a goal of the holders thanks to the impressive Mostafa Kiani.

In the third place playoff, the Iranian men took revenge for the  group match loss which ended 4-3 for the Russian in extra time. The winning Russian goal was scored by Iran’s own player for a bitter & disappointing end.

IN this match Russia started the scoring in the 2nd period after an eventless first period.  However, Iran’s reserve goalkeeper Hamid Behzadpour equalized from a long-range shot into the Russian net. Soon Iran went ahead 2-1 when Mohammad Ahmadzadeh scored his 29th goal in this tournament.

Mohammad Moradi made it  3-1 and Iran was sailing , Romanov scored Russia’s second goal to make it 3-2 and a nervous few minutes for the Persians.

Russia goalkeeper then committed a grave error b handling just outside the zone as he was sent off. The subsequent free kick was blasted into the roof of the net by Mostafa Kiani  to secure a valuable 4-2 win for Iran and a 3rd place position.

A touch of class by Team Melli futsal squad

The great Falcao finally hang his boots and played his last international match in the FIFA World Cup 2016 Colombia.

It was a sweet bitter end to one of the greatest players that Brazilian futsal has ever produced. The 39 years old forward was counting on yet another world title but it was not to be against a stubborn , classy and skillful Iranian side. Despite Falcao efforts and yet another top class performance , he was on the loosing end in one of the shock defeats of Brazil Futsal.

A teary-eyed Falcao, who scored a hat-trick against the Asian champions on Wednesday, said: “I remain very happy having finished my career with a hat-trick but unfortunately they are worth nothing.

“These goals are of no real value; they are just helping me to improve my record.

“If I was able to change everything I did in this tournament, including the goals, and be able to trade it to become world champion, I would in an instant.”

Falcao was named Best Futsal Player in the World a record four times and won the Golden Ball twice in the 2004 and 2008 World Cups.

The Iranians, however , as a show of respect and admiration consoled the great Falcao at the end of the game as he was even given a hero’s sendoff by Iran, who’s team threw him up in the air at full-time .

Despite failing to help Brazil win a sixth World Cup, Falcao admitted he was proud of what he had achieved in his career.

He added: “Even with this result, I remain hugely proud because as I end my career I know I will be remembered as a very important player in the history of futsal.

Falco was emotional at the end of the game as much as he was when he completed his hat trick. The classy touch by the Iranians players and squad left him in awe.

“I was world champion twice, I am so honoured to see how the fans view me and what I have done, as this is what is most important to me.”

Falcao, full name Alessandro Rosa Viera, played for 15 different teams in his 26-year career, including Sao Paulo football club. He is regarded as the greatest futsal player of all time and is known as the ‘Pele’ of the sport.

The greatest perfomance of the century: Iran futsal knocks Brazil out.

Iran stunned the futsal world as they knocked reigning FIFA Futsal World Cup holders Brazil out of Colombia 2016, winning 3-2 on penalties after a 3-3 draw.

As the game got going it felt like this was going to be a no contest, simply waiting for Brazil’s cogs to all begin moving as one, as the world champions pinned Iran back and probed for opportunities. Iran couldn’t find a way out and lacked ideas until the inevitable happened: Falcao, in what turned out to be his final game, opened the scoring.

Fresh from breaking the all-time scoring record against Mozambique, Brazil’s No12 went about extending it, netting twice, first from a crisp volley, then via a genius training ground free-kick routine, capping off Rodrigo’s pass with a cheeky back-heel.

hassanzadeh-scores-vs-brazil-wc16

The one-way traffic ended soon after, led by Hossein Tayebi, who capitalised after good pressing from the Iranians, before they started hammering on the door, ending the first half well on top with Brazil looking uncharacteristically like they had lost all traction.

But any false sense of security was broken when Fernandinho rattled the bar, before forcing a good save from Alireza Sammi. Iran were still very much in the game, but the balance shifted towards those in yellow.

Falcao’s spectacular bicycle kick drew oohs from the crowd as Sammi saved, and again before producing an even better save from Dieguniho’s delicate dink. However, seconds later the Sporting CP man tried it again and this time it came off.

But just as you thought things were reverting to type, Iran ended this half brightly too. Afshin Kazemi flashed home an effort to halve the deficit again, before – while utilising the power play – Ali Hassan Zadeh slammed in to equalise. Extra time beckoned.

Sammi was put to work in the first five, as Brazil pushed on hard to find a winner. They thought they had it when Falcao lifted the ball over Sammi, only for seconds later fellow captain Mohammed Keshavarz did likewise.

It went to penalties and, after Ari rattled the upright, Ahmad Esmaeuilpour hit the winner, setting up a clash with Paraguay in three days’ time.

It was  Guts, skill , grace and a lot of stamina, which helped Iran to create the biggest shock of the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2016 by defeating the Champions and the record title holders Brazil in a penalty shoot out. The thrilling , highly entertaining and quite engaging match ended 4-4 in regulation time. The extra time did not yield any goals. The penalty shoot out ended 3-2 for Team Melli. Brazil missed one kick while Iran scored all the three kicks.

Apart from the first part of the first half when Brazil looked superior and was threatening to run circles around Iran, the match was finely balanced and close. Despite the heroics of goalkeeper Samimi who was the man of the match for Iran, he conceded two goals due to the carelessness of his defence losing the ball in front of the goal and resulting in goals for Brazil. However,  starting from Tayebi brilliant opener for Iran, until the class act of Captain and Leader Mohammad Keshavarz who scored the equalizer with a brilliant volley, Iran showed lots of resilience, skill and matched the world-class Brazilians in every department. Some of the moves and dribbling of Iranian players were highly appreciated by the local Colombians.

Iran meets Paraguay next in the Quarter Finals. Brazil bids farewell. It was a sad end for one of the Futsal icons, the great Falcao who retires from international football after a wonderful career. He made sure that he leaves at a high note scoring a hat trick against Iran in his last match.

This victory by Iran will run shock waves in the world of futsal. A loss by the six times world champion in the last 16 has not happened ever in Futsal World Cup. Iran were the underdogs but the brilliant display by the Persian warriors was a source of pride for the nation that has dominated Asian futsal for decades.

Futsal teams departs to Bogota with great expectations.

Asian Futsal Champion, Iran departed to Bogota to participate in the FIFA Futsal World Cup Colombia 2016 with great expectation.

Iran goes into the FIFA Futsal World Cup with significant momentum, claiming the 2016 AFC Futsal Championship where they racked up an incredible 48 goals.  This is the sixth appearance for Futsal Team Melli in the World Cup which is now ranked in the top 5 teams in the FIFA Ranking.

Seyed Mohammad Nazemalsharieh will be hoping to lead his team to the final rounds of the competition after some sterling performances in the previous World Cup. Only two teams in the world had more participation in the FIFA Futsal World Cup than Iran’s 6 times. Both Brazil and Spain took part in 7 edition of the  FIFA  Futsal World Cup.

Reunion time
Iran will be up against some familiar faces in the group stage of the FIFA Futsal World Cup Colombia 2016, where they will take on not just Spain but also Morocco, whom Tayebi and Co edged past four years ago. Their third opponents, meanwhile, will be somewhat more of an unknown quantity in Azerbaijan.

The Asian champions will once again be kicking off against Spain, on this occasion in Medellin on 12 September. Tayebi stressed that he and his team-mates will be gunning for victory in this heavyweight bout: “I can assure you that every time the Iranian national futsal team enter the pitch, we do so to win, because we’re among the world’s powerhouses in this sport. We respect the Spaniards but we want to win our first match in Colombia. Encounters between Spain and Iran are always spectacular and tight affairs, but we’re determined to get the win.”

“We know that Azerbaijan have a strong team, even though we’ve never faced them,” he continued. “The coaching staff have watched two of their games, though, and told us that they play some good stuff. As I said before, we play to win and that match will be no exception.”

Despite his confidence in his own side’s abilities, Tayebi is nevertheless mindful that several other countries have kicked on in recent years and so it will prove a tough task for Iran to achieve their goal of advancing to at least the last four.

“I think most teams’ level has improved, which means the competition will be stiff and there will be no easy games. There are no favourites on paper and every side will be made to work hard for wins.”

“We’re going to do our best to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup and play with heart. We respect all the other teams a great deal, but we’re determined to succeed.”

Shamsaei thanks God

Inspired by Shamsaee
Tayebi is hopeful that the strike he bagged in Thailand four years ago will not be his last on the world stage, although collective glory remains his number-one target. “I was delighted to find the net against Spain. It was the most important goal of my career. Scoring at a World Cup is something unforgettable for any player,” he said, before quickly clarifying that, “As far as I’m concerned, the team’s success comes before my scoring statistics.”

“It’s exciting to see your name on the scoresheet in a World Cup match but, like I said, the team’s targets are more important. The fact that I’ve scored at a World Cup before shows that I can play my part within the group.”

In his eagerness to do his bit and perform his role with aplomb, Tayebi is inspired by the example of former Iran stars such as ex-national team captain Vahid Shamsaee, whom he described as “one of the best players in futsal history”.

“Vahid is a real legend and I have tremendous respect for him. He’s a great man who had a lot of success in his career. I’m proud to be his compatriot. I love the way he played and I’m going to try to follow in his footsteps by living long in all the Iranian fans’ memories.”

Colombia 2016 could provide the perfect platform for Tayebi to fulfil this dream by not just adding to his World Cup goal tally, but accomplishing something that not even the great Shamsaee was able to – helping his country through to the semi-finals of the global showpiece.

This year’s competition will be a total of 6 groups in the competition with each group having four teams. After the group stages, the top 2 teams from each group will proceed to the knockout stage along with the 4 highest ranked third place finishers.

Solid preparations

11 times Asian Champion Iran team has been actively preparing for the FIFA Futsal World Cup for over 4 months and played several tough matches. In Mashad, Team Melli played two matches against fellow qualifiers Uzbekistan with convincing wins 3-0 and 6-3 for Iran. Earlier, Iran participated in a 4 nation Futsal tournament in Thailand, where they drew with Kazakhstan 3-3, lost to Thailand 7-5 and beat Japan 4-2.

Alireza Faghani to referee the Olympics Final

Alireza Faghani Iran’s and Asia’s top referee has been handed over the task of refereeing the Gold Medal final match in Rio’s Olympics 2016.

Faghani , who has already refereed the Asian Cup 2015 was also selected as part of the refereeing team in the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil.

The referring team for the final match between host Brazil and Germany will also include assistant referees Reza Sokhandan and Mansouri .  The match venue on Saturday 20th August will be the great Maracana stadium expected to be sell out. The sensitivity of the match is amplified by the fact that Germany has hammered and humiliated host Brazil two years ago in the same place during the FIFA World Cup 2014

All eyes will be on the Maracana, as Brazil are 90 minutes away from winning a first-ever gold medal in the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament. As if an Olympic gold medal match needed another layer of intrigue, the hosts will have to get past Germany, a nation that defeated Brazil 7-1 in one of the most historic and shocking matches in FIFA World Cup™ history.

Although Matthias Ginter represents the only player on the German Rio 2016 Olympic side who was a member of Die Nationalmannschaft’s World Cup 2014-winning squad, make no mistake, the host nation will view this as a golden opportunity for redemption. For Brazil, captain Neymar has his golden opportunity to help write his name in the history books after he was injured for that semi-final at the World Cup two years ago.

IRAN to meet Brazil in the 2015 Futsal Grand Prix

Iran Futsal team continued its brilliant performance in Brazil with a hard win to maintain its perfect record in the the tournament.

In the semifinal of Grand Prix du Futsal 2015 , Iran defeated Paraguay 2-0, from goals by Mahdi Javid and Ali Asghar Hassanzadeh, to book a berth in the final.  This will be the third final of Grand Prix in the history of Iran’s national futsal team, which was runner-up in 2007 and 2009, losing both times to the host Brazil. The Iranians achieved this feat with a 100% success rate at the Grand Prix in 2015, with four wins in four games.

Iran was the better team throughout the match, but only managed to open the scoring at the end of the first half. The goal scorer was Mahdi Javid who shot from the right deceived the Paraguay keeper. Outnumbered, Paraguay went to all out attack in the second half, getting to work with the ward Tutu as goalkeeper-line in the final minutes. Two minutes from the end, Juan Salas had a chance to tie, but the keeper Kalamalabadi  saved Iran . To put the final nails in the Paraguayan coffin, Ali Asghar Hassanzadeh took his chance in a swift counter attack sequence and made it  2-0 for Iran confirming its place in the final.

Team Melli Beach Soccer to meet Tahiti in the quarter finals.

Iran’s Beach Soccer team reached the quarter finals of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015™ after finishing runner up in Group C following Brazil defeat of Spain 2-1

The last match in the group stages saw the 4 times title holder Brazil narrowly beat last championships runner up Spain to create one of the first major upset of this edition of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

Iran will be playing against Tahiti who themselves upset all the odds by beating the defending champions Russia 7-6 in Group D. Brazil will be meeting Russia for a place in the semifinals.
