Karim Ansarifard has represented the national team at every age level. He is a product of the Saipa Club youth system. In the 2007 season, the club faced a situation after their star striker, Mohsen Khalili, left. The coach, Ali Daei, gave Karim Ansarifard the opportunity and promoted him to the first team from the reserves. The young starlet answered the coach with some eye-catching performances.
“World Soccer” Magazine selected Ansarifard as one of the best young talents in the world alongside Javier Hernández and Jack Wilshere. In January 2012, FIFA.com selected him as one of the players to watch in 2012. Goal.com also chose him as one of the hottest 100 young football players in the world. Also in 2012, FIFA ranked him as the 48th-best goalscorer in the world and second-best in Asia.
Karim Ansarifard made his debut against Iceland in November 2009 under Afshin Ghotbi and scored his first international goal, which was the only goal of the match. He was given the legendary number 10 shirt previously worn by Ali Daei and scored his third international goal on 15 January 2011 against North Korea, becoming the youngest-ever goalscorer in the AFC Asian Cup for Team Melli.
Ansarifard has changed several clubs after he left Saipa for Persepolis in the 2012/13 season. He joined Tractorsazi, Osasuna, Persepolis, Panionios, Olympiakos, Nottingham Forest, Al Saliya, and in the 2020 season, AEK Athens. He changed eight clubs in as many years, never settling in any one for a steady period. However, Ansarifard’s Marco Polo style did not prevent him from scoring at the clubs and different leagues. His total league goals at the end of the 2020/21 season were 128 goals in 280 games.
