One of Rykov youth discoveries. The Yugoslav coach introduced several young players in the senior Taj team before he left Iran. Gholamreza was one of them.
in 1977 he was selected to play for Iran's youth team. Naalechgar made one appearance in the inaugural FIFA U-20 World Cup 1977 in Tunisia when he played against Ivory Cost.
After the revolution he continued his football with Esteghlal and replaced the golden generation players like Ali Jabbari and Karo Haqverdian in an excellent manner.
In the qualifying matches of the Moscow Olympic Games 1980 , Hassan Habibi picked Naalchegar for Team , where the Esteghlal midfielder made his debut against Singapore in a 3-0 win.
Iran under Habibi managed to win the Olympics qualifying rounds and made it to Moscow. Naalchegar and his teammates would not enjoy taking part in the 1980 Olympic games because Iran boycotted the games as the result of Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.
