His performance attracted attention and was included in the Iran youth team.

Khabiri was a member of the Iran youth team that won the Asian title 1975 in Kuwait. Two years later, Khabiri came back to Kuwait with Team Melli and scored against the host what is still considered one of the most wonderful goals scored by Team Melli player in international matches. Iran already qualified for the World Cup in Argentina, fielded the reserve against the Kuwaitis and still won 2-1.
Khabiri was an active member/sympathizer of the Mojahedin Khalq Organization, a group that was banned in Iran due to terrorist activities. He was arrested and later executed for his role in that organization. The charges against him were never made public.
His execution date was June 21, 1984
