Arabshahi is considered one of the best defensive midfielders in the history of Persepolis club.
At the age of 16, he joined Pas Tehran. After three years he was transferred to Persepolis, where he played for several seasons until 1990.
International career
He played for Team Melli for a few years during the 1980s. Scored a memorable goal for Iran against China in the 1984 Asian Cup in Singapore, which was selected as the best goal of the tournament.
Before the revolution, he started his football career under the guidance of Hassan Habibi, where he played alongside famous names such as Hossein Kazrani and Majid Hallvaei.
He then moved on to Persepolis and played for the Famous Tehran club for 11 years until his retirement.
In 1359, he scored a long-range goal against the Soviet team in a friendly match with a shot from a distance. Iran boycotted the 1986 World Cup qualifiers which cost him and his contemporaries several international games and even the possibility of qualifying for the World Cup.
The late Parviz Dehdari put youth on the agenda in the 1988 AFC Asian Cup, but despite this policy, he included the 29-year-old Arabshahi. Iran won third place in this tournament with Dehdary fielding one of the youngest teams in the history of the Iranian National Team. During the heyday of Persepolis and successive championships of the Reds in the middle years of the 80s, Arabshahi was one of the key players of this team.
