An Iranian Armenian player. Started his career with Ararat Tehran which produced numerous quality players for Iran.
Akhtar then moved to Esteghlal in 1994 where he excelled and proved to be a quality player. He scored many goals and was selected for Team Melli.
Akhtar was part of the famous team that revived Iran glory past and he precipitated in the qualifying round for the Asian Cup 1996. In season 1999/2000 Akhtar moved to Pass Tehran but did not feature in Team Melli again.
