Akbarpour started hos career in Tabriz with Shahrdari Tabriz then changed several clubs before settling with Esteghlal.
Soon became well known for his dribbling as he was able to pass any marker at will. He also scored some crucial goals for Esteghlal. His career was marred by several serious injuries which impeded his development and progress which also restricted his appearances for Team Melli.
