Dastejerdi was one of the rising stars of Khuzestan football, that produced so many quality players in the sixties and seventies. His first team was Pas Sosoongard.
Spotted by Heshmat Mohajerani while Dastegerdi was representing Khuzestan in Youth tournament and he immediately selected him for Iran's youth team. He played several games at youth level. His progress was closely monitored by Taj, Pas and Persepolis before the latter managed to sign him in 1973 while he was 20 years old.
Dasterjdi was not overawed by the presence of the golden generation stars in the club such as Kalani, Behzadi and Iranpak and despite the stiff competetion , he still managed to win a place in the line up of Persepolis and continued his remarkable performance until selected for Team Melli less than a year from joining Persepolis.
Dastjerdi made his debut for Team Melli in the 1974 Asian Games against Bahrain.
He was a member of the Asian Cup winning team in 1976. Two years earlier he won the Asian Games gold medal with Team Melli in Tehran.
Dasterjedi career was cut short after a horrific road accident. He survived the car crash but never managed to regain his old form after full recovery. After playing a few matches for Persepolis, he was released to join Naft Tehran where he played for a short while but never at his known previous standard.
Mohammad Dasterjdi retired early after his short spell with Naft Tehran.
