Hossein Kazerani .
Hossein Kazerani (born April 13, 1947 in Andimeshk, Khuzestan)
He played most of his career for Pas Tehran. He was the captain and one of the key players of Pas winning the Iranian Takht Jamshid in 1977 and 1978.
Kazerani was a tall and commanding defender and was considered one of the best in Iran in the mid to late seventies. He was picked for Team Melli in 1973 and made his debut against New Zealand in a friendly match at Newmarket Park, Auckland. That squad was eventually left for Australia for a crucial FIFA World Cup 1974 qualifier against Australia. Kazerani was not part of the team for this match nor the return in Tehran.
Following the elimination from the FIFA World Cup 1974 with Iran losing 3-2 in aggerate against Australia, Team Melli went through an upheaval. Manu of the older generation player gave way and Kazerani was inducted in the team as a starter and soon solidified his place in the team.
Kazerani's best performance came in the qualifiers of FIFA World Cup 1978 where Iran easily qualified for the first time to the 1978 FIFA World Cup in Argentina. He played in all the 3 matches in Argentina
Following the World Cup and on return to Iran, football was disrupted in the country.
Kazerani ended his career while at his prime in the winter of 1978/79, when the Iranian league was stopped due to the Iranian Revolution. He was 31 years old at the time of retirement.
