Hossein Ali Kalani was born in northern Tehran. He is the most famous son of Shemiranat neighborhood in Iran's second-generation football. The emergence of the national football and Persepolis clubs during the 1960s and 70s was a spectacular rise in history of Iranian football.
Unlike many other Shahin players who started from the age groups of the club, Kalani started his career with the sub-clubs of Taj, where he started training under the supervision of men like Hossein Farzami and Shahram Vaziri.
Master Abbas Ekrami, was a legendary Iranian coach and football mentor. Ekrami used to walk home from Alborz High School where he was teaching, and in the streets and neighborhoods he always looked for talented teenagers. He was scouting when one day he noticed this brilliant boy with a blond hair playing in the streets. If it was not for this boy speaking in Farsi, he would have been mistaken him for a son of the European embassy staff in Iran. It was young Kalani, though and Ekarami did not waste time to bring him into Shahin
