In May 1962 during the Presidency of Hossein Sourori , Fekri was appointed as the head coach of Team Melli . He was 39 years old at the time at remained at the helm until 1967.
In 1966 George Souch was also appointed as a coach and Fekri worked with him , he was doing his duty in the side.
During his early football career , Hossain Fekri was an Daraei player and a founding member of Tehran Javan team and its first coach. In the late 30s and early 40s he was a member of Tehran Select team and subsequently a Team Melli player. In 1951 he was a member of Team Melli squad that participated in the inaugural Asian Games.
