Brazil debut against Iran in the knockout stages of the Futsal World Cup
Led by superstar Falcao and unbeaten in the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2016 Colombia with three wins, the Brazilian team starts knockout stages as one of the favorites for the title with a game against the Asian Champions Iran.
In search of their eighth world cup title futsal (the sixth in tournaments organized by FIFA), the Brazilian national team debut on Wednesday in the knockout phase in the city of Bucaramanga , Colombia.
The Brazil team reached the knockout stages in a high in the tournament. The team finished the first stage with 100% record, with wins over Ukraine (3 -1) Australia (11 – 1) and Mozambique (15 – 3). In this last game, Falcao became the top scorer in the history of World Cups, scoring his 45th goal. The previous record holder was another Brazilian Manoel Tobias, 43.
Iran advanced to the next stage after they were nudged to third in Group F with victory over Morocco by 5-3, draw with Azerbaijan on 3-3, and defeat to Spain by 5 to 1. Brazilians and Iranians recently dueled in end of the Grand Prix 2015, with tight triumph for green and yellow team: 4 – 3.
The winner of this contest will face Paraguay in the quarterfinals
Iran has always found it tough going against the Brazilians however the Asian Powerhouse have never been intimidated by the World Champions and always gave the Brazilians a good run for their money. On form and at their best , Iran futsal can be a serious threat to any team.
