Klinsmann “The World Cup has been set up with advantages for the pre-tournament favourites”

The World Cup has been set up with advantages for the pre-tournament favorites, United States coach Jurgen Klinsmann said on Sunday.

The Americans were moments away from advancing to the knockout stage from Group G — often referred to the Group of Death — when Portugal pegged them back for a 2-2 draw in Manaus. The U.S. now must face Germany in the final game of the group stage with safety not assured.

The situation that USA faces is quite similar to Iran. An injury time winner by Messi , broke the Iranian hearts especially as they had a genuine penalty call that the Serbian referee did not award Iran. Iran has to win the last match against Bosnia-Herzegovina in order to qualify provided Argentina defeats Nigeria in the other match which will kick-off at the same time on Wednesday.

Jurgen Klinsmann did not elaborate much on the reasons for his claim apart from saying that the US team has the most distance to travel between all the teams. This is not entirely FIFA’s fault as the Americans elected to be based in the South at Sao Paulo and travel one of the longest distances to Manaus in the North west to the Amazon for the match against Portugal. On the other hand , Germany chose to set up camp in Porto Seguro, about halfway up the Brazilian coast, cutting their air travel to about half of what the U.S. must face.

Klinsmann also complained about the one extra day rest that the German will have in their crucial final group match with USA, a similar complain to Carlos Queiroz’s about the rest of teams in the same group. That sound much more genuine grievance by Klinsmann.
