Iran U16 lose the final group match.

the-afc-com

Bangkok: Unbeaten Syria qualified for a fourth consecutive AFC U-16 Championship quarter-finals after goals from Mohammad Jaddoua and Naeim Naem secured a 2-1 victory over Group D winners Iran at Muangthong Stadium on Thursday.

Syria knew a win would guarantee second place in the group behind Iran and Mohamed Al Attar’s side took the lead midway through the first half following a neat finish from midfielder Jaddoua before striker Naem crucially doubled the advantage five minutes before half-time.

Midfielder Mohammad Soltanimehr reduced the deficit in first-half stoppage time, but with Iran having a goal disallowed for offside in stoppage time, Syria will now face Group C winners and defending champions Uzbekistan in Sunday’s quarter-final.

“It was a very difficult game and complicated because of the points situation in the group,” said Syria coach Al Attar.

“We played to win, but instructed our players to keep a solid formation and not allow the Iran players space.

“I was very nervous about conceding at the end, but it finished up in our favour.”

Former winners Iran made nine changes to their starting line-up following Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Saudi Arabia which secured top spot in Group D with a game to spare, and it was Syria who had the first sight on goal after 15 minutes as Jaddoua’s header from Anas Aji’s corner was cleared to safety.

Jaddoua then saw his left-footed volley from the resulting corner drift just wide of Ali Akbar Ahmadi’s left post.

But after Aji volleyed over soon after, Syria made their dominance count as Jaddoua latched onto a through pass and coolly tucked the ball under Iran goalkeeper Ahmadi to open the scoring in the 26th minute.

Iran midfielder Amir Hossein Yahyazadeh then headed his side’s first chance of note over the crossbar just after the half hour mark.

Syria, though, should have doubled their lead seven minutes before the interval only for the unmarked Mohamad Kawakbi to volley Mohamad Loulou’s deflected cross high over the crossbar from 10 yards.

But Syria did double their lead a minute later as Naem latched onto a long ball before lobbing over outrushing custodian Ahmadi.

Iran, though, pulled a goal back against the run of play on the stroke of half-time courtesy of a beautiful 20-yard free-kick by Soltanimehr which curled into the top right-hand corner.

And Iran started the second half the brighter and captain Nima Mokhtari curled just over shortly after the restart.

Then midway through the second half, Hesam Soltanpour’s fizzing shot from distance was well held by Syria goalkeeper William Ghannam as the Iran strikers closed in.

A minute later Syria could have given themselves some breathing space after a mix-up in the Iran defence, but striker Abdullah Barakat shot directly at goalkeeper Ahmadi.

Iran, though, continued to push and had the ball in the net in stoppage time following a goalmouth scramble, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.

“We had already qualified so I wanted to rest some of my key players and give others a chance,” said Iran coach Mostafa Ghanbar Pour, who must now prepare his side for Sunday’s quarter-final with 2010 champions DPR Korea.

“At half-time I told my players to concentrate more and we played much better after that.”

Masoud Shojaei joins QSL club Al-Shahaniya SC

Masoud Shojaei signed with Al Shahaniya club the newest member of Qatar Star League for one season. The ceremony was held in the club’s HQ in Doha on Thursday.

After claiming that he has offers from several Spanish and Greek clubs, Shaojae , turned up in Doha to sign for the newly promoted club. AL Shahaniya formerly know as Al Nasr, has spent the majority of its existence in the second division in Qatar. Las Palmas , in the segunda Division of the Spanish league was the last team that Masoud played for after his contract with Osasuna expired.

Ali Daei is sacked as Persepolis coach. Turmoil continues!

The turmoil at the most popular team in Asia has continued after today’s announcement by the Persepolis chairman, that Ali Daei has been relieved of his duties as Persepolis head coach

Hamid Derakhshan is appointed in a caretaker capacity.

Persepolis has been embroiled in various problems on and off the field for years. The Ministry of Youth and Sport which has direct control on the club has been directing the affairs and changing many personnel after the sacking of Mohammad Rouyanian, who is now believed to be in prison awaiting a trial for corruption.

The Ex Sepahan CEO Rahimi was appointed as the new CEO of Persepolis replacing Rouyanian ,  A complete change of board members was followed and a person by the name of Siyasi was selected as Chairman.  Siyasi, translated from Farsi means political, and as it turned out , that was the only thing he was concerned with. Interestingly enough , very few of the new Persepolis board had much footballing pedigree except for watching matches on TV according to one sarcastic critic.

The bad results on the field culminated in the sacking of Daei , however , the CEO Rahimi refused the order of the sacking originated from the chairman himself. The conflict between Chairman and CEO resulted in the departure of the latter for refusing to obey the chairman request , which Rahimi said was unlawful as it is the CEO duty to appoint or sack coaches rather than the chairman.

Persepolis financial, managerial , administrative and staff relationships issue has no end. The Ministry have made a right mess of the club by their direct interference,  poor management and control, mostly executed by Amir Khadem . The ex-freestyle wrestling champion. has been given the green light by the Minister to put the house of Persepolis in order and prepare the club for privatization.. However ,  despite the good intentions,  Khadem has failed miserably and the signs are that more turmoil are forecasted ahead.

The turmoil and failures of Persepolis is archetypical and a classic case of where Iran football seriously fails.

Poor management , political interference and incompetent personal at decision-making levels.

Currently, football in Iran is run and managed by a horde of incompetent personnel starting from FFIRI and down to the clubs.

Imagine if FFIRI instead of Kaffashian and his gang , was run by the same Iranian managers responsible for development of Iran’s Volleyball ( Mohammad Reza Davarzani ) or Basketball ( Mahmoud Mashhoun)!

Hossein Faraki appointed as Sepahan coach

After the abrupt resignation of the Croat coach  Zlatko Kranjcar from Sepahan , Hossein Faraki was signed as the head coach of the Esfahani club.

Faraki will start his job with immediate effect this weekend when his stuttering team faces the only unbeaten team in the league , Padideh.

Farki was the prime candidate for coaching Team Melli after the World Cup when Kaffashian suddenly did a U-turn and decided that Queiroz shall remain in charge.   At this time , Team Melli is still coach less while Kaffashian keeps telling everyone that Queiroz is the coach but has not signed yet!

Meanwhile , all the teams of the Iran Group C in AFC Asian Cup 2015 ,  have played at least two friendly matches or more in their preparation for the premiere competition. Today Bahrain beat Kuwait 1-0 , while Qatar lost 0-2 to Peru.

Iran U16 qualifies to the next round after defeating Saudi Arabia.

Iran U 16 team qualified to the next round of the AFC Asian U 16 Championship Thailand 2014 after defeating Saudi Arabia 2-1 today.

The Saudi team went ahead late in the first half , when a clumsy pass by a defender was intercepted resulting in a counter attack and a fine header by midfielder Mashour Abdulla past Iran’s Keeper Farid Nejatpashaki to make it 1-0 for KSA.

In the second half , Iran were slowly losing the control of the match with the Saudi’s defending strongly and also threatening on the counter attack. As the confidence of the Arab team was on the rise, Iran struck with a fine header by the substitute Mohammad Shamsi who headed powerfully from a brilliant cross by Reza Karimi from the right. The frustrating Karimi , whose work thus far  was marred by eccentricity and selfish play , managed to dribble his way past several marker before crossing in the box , met by the rising Shamsi to score the equalizer.

One minute later,  the Saudi’s were stunned when Reza Karimi , this time turned from provider of assist to a scorer, when he chested a loose ball  into the empty net after some shoddy defending by the Saudi team and the goalkeeper.

The rest of the match had much more efforts by the Saudi team who were desperate to score at least an equalizer to keep their chances of qualifying alive, but it was not to be as the Iranian boys defending quite well , although at times quite nervously and chaotically.

Iran joins Australia, Japan, and South Korea all on 6 points after 2 matches as the qualifiers to the next round of the championship.

Iran U16 looking for qualification to the next round.

Team Melli U16 are strong candidate for qualifying to the next round as Qatar and Syria ended their match 1-1. Qatar missed a golden opportunity to take all three points after the Australian referee awarded Qatar a penalty in the dying minutes of the match. Syrian Goalkeeper saved the penalty kick, awarding his team its 2nd point in as many games of the tournament after their draw with Saudi Arabia.

Iran will be facing the Saudi Team breaming with confidence and hope to grab at least a point , although that might not be enough depending on the last  game against Syria.

In the first match against Qatar, Iranian boys showed quite a good level of individual skills and a much better physical strength and body built than the smaller sized opponents of Qatar. However , the match also highlighted a few points of weakness that mars Iranian football in general.

Despite their young age and limited expectations, the team was geared towards dependence on individual skills rather than teamwork. Their insistence to dribble past their opponents rather than finding a better positioned teammate was quite obvious in the game vs Qatar. It will be a safe bet to assume that similar style of play, which is antiquated, will be employed throughout this tournament. On contrast, the effect of the Qatar Aspire Academy was clearly showing in the Qatar team. Nice passing and teamwork was a delight to watch and in contrast to the individual skills of Iranians.

Whether that is a reason of ill preparation or because of feeble standard of coaching at such age group is open to debate.

The other shortcoming is the finishing. Again at such age level , one must not expect anything beyond the age of these players, but even considering that, the young Iranians could have scored at least 3 more goals with better finishing.

Saudi Arabia needs all the 3 points to stand a chance of qualification.

Bangkok: Reza Shekari scored twice as former AFC U-16 Championship winners Iran edged out Qatar 3-2 on Sunday in a highly-entertaining Group D opener at Rajamangala Stadium.

Hassan Ahmad had handed Qatar the lead after just four minutes only for Reza Karimi to equalise midway through the first half before Shekari turned the tie in favour of an improving Iran just after half-time.

Ahmad did level the scores just before the hour mark, but 2008 champions Iran quickly responded through Shekari’s second to claim all three points despite the dismissal of defender Nima Daghestani with just under 20 minutes remaining.

“The first match in any tournament is important. In the first minutes we could not play well and could not perform due to a lack of concentration, but as time passed, we became the dominant team,” said Iran coach Mostafa Ghanbar Pour, who must now turn his attentions to Tuesday’s meeting with Saudi Arabia.

“By shifting the positions of the players on the field we could score the second goal, and by increasing the pressure, we could score the third goal.

“The sending off of our central defender created a lot of pressure on us, but even though it was not a beautiful match, we were able to get the three points.”

In testing afternoon heat, Qatar made the ideal start as Ahmad’s deflected shot from the edge of the penalty area squirmed past Iran goalkeeper Farid Nejatpashaki after the striker’s clever flick close to the halfway line had sent Abdulrasheed Umaru clear in space down the left before continuing his run and collecting a return pass from his strike partner.

Iran, though, looked for an instant response to the early setback and had the ball in the back of the net after 10 minutes only for the assistant referee’s flag to cut short celebrations after Vahid Aftari’s header had looped over stranded Qatar goalkeeper Mohammed Ibrahim.

The end-to-end nature of the contest continued as the half progressed, but with Iran increasing their dominance particularly in the final third, the scores were level after 21 minutes as Karimi raced clear of the Qatar backline before firing low across Ibrahim from inside the area.

And Iran finished the half on top as Karimi was denied by the legs of Ibrahim four minutes before half-time before Shekari headed over from the resulting corner.

But Shekari was not to be denied three minutes after the restart as the midfielder collected Aftari’s pass before scooping his strike past Ibrahim in the Qatar goal.

Qatar, though, drew level a minute before the hour mark as Ahmad beat the Iran offside trap and after showing calmness beyond his years, the 16-year-old expertly scooped the ball over exposed goalkeeper Nejatpashaki from the edge of the penalty area.

But Iran regained the lead just two minutes later as Qatar custodian Ibrahim failed to collect a high ball across the face of goal, and with the goalkeeper out of position as the ball was directed back across the face of goal, Shekari was on hand to head home despite the presence of two defenders on the goalline.

Iran’s task of holding onto their lead this time, though, was made significantly harder with 19 minutes remaining as Daghestani was sent-off after picking up a second yellow card.

But despite several nervy moments in Iran backline, Qatar were unable to find a response in the closing stages.

“Iran are a very strong team and it was hard for us. We did a lot of good things, but we made mistakes,” said Qatar coach Oscar Fernandez, who must now re-group his side to face Syria on Tuesday.

“We know we need to recover as we have another game in two days. We need to build on the good things and now is the time to rest and recover as we have another game.

“We had chances against a great team, one of the best teams here, and we played very well and had chances. Their goalkeeper made two or three good saves and we had a lot of corners as well.”

Asst. Minister accuses FFIRI of incompetence.

Assistant Minster of Youth and Sport, AbdolHamid Ahmadi accused the football federation of failing to act as it is mandated and divert its weakness and shortcomings on others.

In a statement to ISNA , the Assistant Minister who was on his way to Yazd said “The ministry of Sport has no role in the contract negotiations between the sport federations and their coaches. We have highlighted this so many times. Those who claim that the Ministry is interfering in the negotiations or influences the outcome of FFIRI and Queiroz, contract talk,  are simply covering up the real culprit. It is the feeble football federation that has left Iran’s National Team (Team Melli) without a program and without a coach. We do not pay the coach wages, the federations does.”

“It is not our business to lay conditions on any federation, the legislations and the role of the ministry is quite clear. We are a supervisory body and will provide consultation and assistance to any of our national sport federations.”

Mr. Ahmadi reserved his sharpest criticism for the Iranian media and accuses it of being the instigators of a lot of side issues in sport by their prejudiced reporting influencing people into hostilities.

“Instead of promoting sport as a healthy lifestyle and practice, the media here continuously create controversy by picking news items that involves a conflict between one party versus another. By doing that, the tension between the two quarreling sides increases and people start taking sides. Most of these quarrels or differences have nothing to do with sport but a lot is generated due to personal conflicts and issues.”
