Profile: Ezatollah VATANKHAH, #0

Also known as Bivak Vatankhah.

Born in Tabriz but moved to Tehran when he was six months old. Played footballl in the neighborhood but his ambition was to join Shahin as he was a very passionate about this team. He was eventually picked up by Dr. Ekrami who was the owner and coach of Shahin. Vatankhah and his teammates , Dehdari and Masoud Broumand won the league in 1965.

Vatankhah wa selected for team melli at the tender age of 18 and was supposed to be in the squad for the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo , but because of the dispute betwen the Football federation and Shahin , he and the rest of Shahin contingent (Mehrab Shahroukhi , Homayoun Behzadi Hamid Shirzadegan , Hamid Jassemian and Hamid BarmakI) were banned from joining the squad.

That exclusion remains the biggest regret of Vatankhah sporting career as he dearly liked to play in such a great sporting event. Shortly after that event , Shahin club was disbanded and Vatankhah by invitation of Perpolis owner , Hossein Abdoo , moved to Perspolis along with most of Shahin players.

He briefly joined "Peykan" the first fully professional club in Iran before returning back to Perspolis where he played until he retird in 1974 aged 32.
