Vahid Hashemian
had a terrific season with his second Bundesliga
club. After an unsuccessful spell with Hamburg, where he was transferred
from Pas Tehran, Hashemian joined Bochum in the second division and
helped his club win promotion.
It was 2002/03 bundesliga season where Hashemian has shown his
potential as a lethal striker. Although he hardly started a match with
his club, this supper sub managed to score 10 goals in the bundesliga
and was instrumental in the success and survival of his team.
A quick recall to the Team Melli was imminent, which was overshadowed
previously by his refusal to join the national team. The reason for
abandoning Team Melli was the fact that he had little playing time
for Team Melli although he made every effort to travel from Germany for
matches involving the national Team.
Hashemian , under immense pressure, eventually yielded and joined the
squad to face Jordan in Amman. The biggest impression of Hashemian
came during the World Cup 2006 qualifications with impressive and
displays and vital goals against Qatar and Japan.
His transfer from Bayern Munich , where
he never managed to secure a place in the starting line-up and had only
a handful of appearances , to Hanover did not yield a good result. It
was only in mid season that Hashemian started scoring and blending well
with the team. A nasty injury cut short his season with Hanover.
He should , however , recover in time for the
World Cup.
